The World’s Original Marmalade Awards and Festival are held annually at Dalemain, a Georgian stately home, lived in by the same family for over 300 years and home to a rich archive of marmalade recipes. With the initial idea of preserving and growing the most British of customs – making marmalade, the annual event has an international following and thousands of entries.
Now in its 11th year, the 2016 event has grown and will be celebrated across three venues – Dalemain, Penrith town centre, and the Rheged Centre, with a packed weekend of marmaladeinspired events for all the family. Marmalade aficionados will be drawn to Dalemain for the fiercely contested marmalade awards, with a chance to taste test certain varieties and listen to talks from marmalade experts.
Stop off and enjoy a screening of the Paddington Film on Rheged’s giant cinema, alongside a Paddington Tea Party, hands-on marmalade-themed family activities and family theatre. If you’re looking to take something marmalade-inspired home, you’ll find artisan markets at Rheged and Penrith offering an array of food and crafts. There will be live cookery demonstrations and music in Penrith too, with a chance to meet Paddington Bear himself.
A free ‘Orange Express’ shuttle bus will operate between the three venues. If you love all things marmalade, this is one event not to be missed!
