Eden Mencap Society is a local charity that supports children and adults with learning disability and autism spectrum disorder across the whole of the Eden Valley. We have had to move our support services three times over the last 10 years. Last year we moved into Ullswater House in Penrith where our service users are flourishing in the extra space it provides. We have less than four years left in this building unless we can raise the funds to buy it.
Will you help us?
You can, by buying a brick! We need to raise £200,000 to buy our home. Once it is ours, we will be able to adapt and upgrade it to meet the more specialist needs of some of our clients. It takes about 20,000 bricks to build this building so that is £100 a brick. Help us to create a supportive environment for people with disabilities to become more independent and part of their local community.
Part of our improvement plan is to build a new entrance porch to make it more accessible for our wheelchair users. You can buy a brick for £15. This cost includes a recognition plaque. The brick will then become part of the new entrance porch. We need 13,333 brick donations to reach our target. There are currently over 50,000.00 people living in the Eden Valley – the area we cover, so if just a quarter of those living in our area donated a brick we would be able to buy our building – will you help us to reach our target?
We also have a project (supported by The Pot Place) to make our own bricks. Our service users will make these bespoke bricks to use in a memorial garden we are creating at the rear of the building. For these special bricks we would like a donation of £100 each. Again they will bear a recognition plaque. By donating, you will be contributing to our legacy and leaving a legacy yourself
