A much-awaited announcement was made on 28th May by the Chief Dental Officer Sara Hurley, Dental Practices can start to open from 8th June. This is fantastic news for dental teams across the country, it has been a very difficult time for everyone, so it was a welcome change in times of uncertainty. Strictly Dental would like to take this opportunity to thank our patients for their understanding and for the many messages of support during lockdown, it has meant such a lot to us all. Patients safety has always been and remains the key priority and practices will have been working on a “back to work” plan to ensure they have all the correct PPE and safety procedures in place just as soon as possible and will do everything in their power to work towards this date for reopening.Practices are doing everything they can to get to all the patients who need them just as soon as possible. Following the release of guidance on 1st June, practices now have a pandemic plan, risk assessments and additional protocols to follow and will use these to make sure that re-opening is safe, effective and prioritises the most urgent needs. After 10 weeks of closure, practices have already been contacted by patients who are now in desperate need and practices will have to prioritise the relief of pain but still aim to see everyone as soon as they can.On returning to your dental practice, you will notice changes in the way the practice now needs to operate following the reopening. Practices will ensure that they contact the patients with urgent needs initially and will provide all patients with clear advice and guidance before visiting the practice to ensure a smooth transition into the new procedures. As an example, on your next appointment you will notice that staff will be wearing PPE and screens may be installed on Reception desks. As well as this, you may be asked to attend appointments alone, fill forms in online and make payments in a different ‘contactless’ manner. These changes will be communicated to you by your practice prior to attending your appointment so you know what to expect, as well as contact details should you have any queries or concerns about the changes.
